Google+ Hangouts to be available to all its users

Google Plus, the social networking site of Google, has announced that its unique property Google+ Hangouts will now be available globally to all its users.

Google+ Hangouts On Air, which was announced last year, was available to a limited number of broadcasters and enabled them to go live with friends and fans. Indian users could recall the Hangout of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan before the launch of his sci-fi film Ra One last year.

This new application on Google Plus will enable users to broadcast their actions live. Users will also be able to broadcast themselves on YouTube or their personal or company websites. “This small community has grown the feature in lot of creative ways. And they’ve made one thing crystal clear: when groups of passionate individuals can broadcast live together, the results are truly remarkable,” informed Chee Chew, Engineering Director, Google.

What could be of interest to advertisers is the measurable nature of interactivity that this application offers. The broadcaster on this application will be able to see the number of viewers watching the hangout live. The same is then uploaded on the YouTube channel of the broadcaster and his Google Plus account.

Over the next few weeks, Google will roll out live stations in a phased wise manner. The first such Hangout will be with a journalist of CNBC on May 10 who will cover the Facebook IPO.

This initiative of Google is another step to strengthen its video offering, this time with Google Plus.

For the record, launched in September last year, Google Plus has close to 10 million active users In India.
