PATNA: Patna University (PU) students and teachers, on Republic Day on Saturday, took an oath to protect women's dignity.

After unfurling the national flag at the PU Republic Day function at Patna Science College on Saturday, vice-chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh administered the oath to hundreds of students accompanied by their teachers that they would not do anything which might hurt the sentiment of girl students or women teachers on the campus. They resolved to work towards creating an environment of gender justice where men and women can work together with a sense of personal security and dignity. PU gender sensitization cell chief Bharti S Kumar prepared the draft of oath.

PU happens to be the first educational institution in Bihar to have created a full-fledged gender sensitization cell in the backdrop of recent Delhi gang rape case.

Earlier, addressing the students and faculty members, the VC said steps had been initiated to modernize this premier university with a view to facing the challenges of modern times. He sought the cooperation of all in reviving its ancient glory.

The VC inspected the march past by NCC cadets and NSS volunteers. Different colleges of PU including Magadh Mahila College, B N College, Patna College and Patna Law College, presented their tableaux on the occasion. An hourlong cultural programme was also presented by the students.
