M S University is jeopardizing careers of thousands of students. Even as the exam season is on at all big faculties of the university, thousands of students are still unaware about their earlier results.
At faculty of science, students of choice based credit system (CBCS), who are presently appearing for fourth semester exams, have not received marksheets of their first, second and third semester till date.
Worse is the case at faculty of arts where 1,300 first year Bachelors of Arts students and 375 Masters of Arts (part I) students are appearing for exams. They are not even informed about the results of the first semester exams that were held in December last year.
"Except results of the first semester, results of second and third semesters got delayed. In fact, just a week before the commencement of fourth semester exams, we received results of third semester. And we still don't have marksheets of any of the exams," a second year Bachelors of Science student of environmental science informed TOI, adding that around 26 students from his programme are running from pillar to post to get their marksheets, but both the exam section of MSU and the faculty are blaming each other for the delay.
"The exam section officials told us that it is the faculty which has delayed the results and hence the issuance of marksheets is being delayed. Despite our head's recommendation that students should be allowed to opt for re-assessment based on tabulated results, the exam section is insisting that we can apply for re-assessment only when our marksheets are with us. What is our fault if the faculty has delayed preparing the results or the exam section has delayed in issuing the marksheets," another student of faculty of science said.
Dean of faculty of science professor Nikhil Desai admitted that students are facing problems. He assured that he will soon solve the problem.
At faculty of arts, the situation is grave. Here the students are appearing for their exams without knowing whether they have cleared their earlier exams. Five months have passed to the first semester exams of FY BA and MA (part I) students, yet nobody has clue about the results.
A teacher of the faculty blamed the computer centre for the delay. "As the faculty had switched over to the new CBCS system from the earlier annual system, new programming software had to be prepared fresh. Although teachers have submitted their results on time, processing of results is taking a longer time. There is also ambiguity on the rules regarding the grading and gracing system," he said.
